Detailed w-script installation instructions
Having problems installing w-script? Read this.
!!Some parts here is from personal experience only and may be wrong due to the lack of proper documentation, if you know better please comment
First of all, download latest w-script version, there should be large green button somewhere in this page.
Unzip the package.
Fire up your favorite FTP client, if you don’t have one, I’d suggest using FileZilla, install and usage instructions are on their site.
Upload all the files from folder wscript to your host.
The uplouad takes a few minutes, so meanwhile go to your host’s CPanel (usually yourdomain.com/cpanel) Find the section Databases there and click on MySQL® Database wizard.
In the next window enter the database name, in this example it will be “walls” click next.
There you enter database user name and password, I usually use the same name I used for the database, so user name is “walls” too. enter password twice, click “Crate user”.
In next window you will see this text:
Added user “hellkern_walls” with password “YourPassword”.
Step 3: Add User to the Database
User: hellkern_walls
Database: hellkern_walls
(instead of “hellkern” there will be your database prefix)
Now !!Important select “All Privileges” and click next.

Step 4: Complete the task
User hellkern_walls was added to the database hellkern_walls.
Go back to your FTP client, the file transfer should be finished now, if not wait for a bit.
Make sure you chmod all the necessary files correctly. Use this tutorial.
Go to yourwebsite.com and the installation screen should appear.
Field name / What to enter there
Hostname / leave it al “localhost” , if it does not work use “ftp.yourwebsite.com” or other link, if your hosting provided one.
Database name / Your DB name, in this example “hellkern_walls“
Database User / Your DB user, in this example “hellkern_walls“
Database Password / DB password, in this example “YourPassword“
Database Prefix / DB prefix, in this example “hellkern_”
Admin Psername / Your user name
Admin Password / Your Password. Use at least 8–9 characters, may cause errors if too short (not tested)
Admin Email / Your email
Site Name / Your site name, keep it short, 3–4 words is enough, may cause errors if too long (not tested)
Site Slogan / Your site slogan, keep it short, 5–6 words is enough, may cause errors if too long (not tested)

Try to guess how many are there 
Press “Perform installation” if everything is ok, you should get text like “delete installation folder to continue”, if not make sure you did all the steps exactly as written here. If thete is still error please post a screenshot of it in the Support Forum.
Delete folder “install” from your host.
(Optional, use only if you wan’t usee SEO friendly url’s and rank better in search engines)
Once installation is finished log in to your website, go to Manage->Site Settings
In there go to Settings tab, cose to the bottom there are a setting “Enable mod_rewrite”. Choose yes and click save.
Now this will probably mess up the whole site, but don’t worry, here is a fix: go to your FTP client and delete file .htaccess (You might need to enable “Show Hidden Files” seting in your FTP client to see it)
Open the folder “wscript” you downloaded/unzipped earlier, take file _htaccess, copy it to your host and rename as .htaccess there. !!Important Make sure the new .htaccess is CHmodded as 644, or you might just get hacked..

Wow. Mike first I must say that I’m sorry, there’s nothing wrong with your site, is something wrong with my browser (Google Chrome). In Chrome I see this site (www.w-script.com) having lots of words with hyphens, even the forum is showing like that.

How do I modify the header of the default template. I cannot see any template such as header.html etc. though footer and right sidebars are there. I want to add a horizontal 728x90 adsense ad at top of website below the logo and want to modify the header for the same. Please inform me as to how do I modify the header of the default template.

But after i logged in, i have found manege and then site settings but i could nt find ‘Enable mod_rewrite’ option. Please help me…

Hello. it is honor for me to install ur excellent script upon my domain.i just have small problem.
if u looked at my page u will find that is nothing appears in the bottom block most rated..how can i fix it please.
set the Minimum wallpaper votes for top10 to 1 and rate any wallpaper, and it will appear straight away. The default setting is 5 or 6 i think, that’s why it doesn’t show any most rated until your wallpaper gets the amount of votes.

Instructions for installing are OK but after CHMODding the files and folders you don’t mention which ones to put back to 644 or 755 for example. I don’t know for sure but leaving settings.php with the CHMOD of 777 sounds risky. If you change it however, does it stop you from changing settings later?
You need to add instructions for other areas too.
No where do I see instructions for bulk uploading. The only mention of bulk uploading is in the features of w-script but it mentions a zip file which does not work.
The CHMOD instructions you refer to in some places are obviously for the previous version of w-script as some of the folders you mention in the list do not exist.
I will be making instructions for these areas plus others soon as I can see many others having problems with just the simple stuff.

Have you logged onto your site? That’s the only thing that I can think of that would stop you from seeing MANAGE
when i logged in through admin my manage panel not show in other pc and when i logged in through my pc my manage setting show properly

I have facing some problems. Mod_rewrite is not mentioned in admin setting, how to add social network widget, how to paste of advertisement, how to change the background and upload logo like if i want to change ” W ” which is mention on header how can i change it? Last but not least my some statistics is not visible like total number of wallpapers, Total number of categories, Total users in statistics widget. Kindly guide me.

i think you are not installed script completely. and some errors come from hosting company also.
always get “Settings not saved. Please check your fields for errors and also that you applied the right permissions to all required files and folders.”
Make folder temp in docroot. Chmod to 777

Hi, thanks for sharing this awesome script!!! Just a question, it’s possible to categorize wallpapers based on resolution? For example there will be a category for all 1600x1200 wallpapers, another for all 1680x1050 and so on… can be possibile in this release or maybe in a future one?

I just wanted to say that W-Script is so far the best free wallpaper script I have ever found. The interface, the options, the customization…I really can’t believe this is free, it’s amazing

how can i acess the administration page of the installation?
First of all HUGE thank you for providing us the script!
The reason I’m commenting is I have a problem with managing my site. When I log into my administrator account I made while installing the script there is no Manage button as I’ve seen in tutorials there should be. Anyone else had this problem? And how do I fix this?
